What is Peace Education?
The goal of Peace Education programs is to promote positive conflict resolution and to teach children to be accepting of others despite any differences. Basically by developing children sense of morality and to teach them to be socially and ethically minded (Montessori as cited in Duckworth, 2013).
Programs hope to help transcend cultural ideologies which have previously lead to war and conflict such as racism, sexism, religion, violence and politics.
The goal is to help children understand how these issues have lead cultures to conflict and how they have the power to change the way of thinking about these issues and solving them. So that the world can be a place free of war. A place of peace (Teachers without Borders [TWB], n.d.).
