Unity in Diversity

Throughout my research I into the TWB initiatives, I feel that I have identified most with the goals and visions of Peace Education.

The TWB curriculum states that this theory is not about 'reinventing the wheel'. The idea has been around since Maria Montessori, Herbert Read and Paulo Friere made links to peace and education, creative expression and critical thinking in order to promote peace, conflict resolution and social reform. (Teachers Without Borders [TWOB], n.d.)

I find that the principles for peace education align with some other initiatives of the TWOB, such as girls' education, child friendly spaces, bullying and bridges to understanding. The main goals for peace education are to "transfer the culture of war and violence into a culture of peace and nonviolence". (TWOB, n.d.)

Peace education has power to create a shift in the cultural views that substantiate and instigate the conflict and war in our world. It's aim is to overcome social injustice by promoting equity and equality and breaking down negative cultural ideologies and re-educating for more peaceful and positive ones.

The Peace education program has been implemented in Dadaab with much success as Pauline Rose (2010) writes "In Dadaab, a Peace Education programme has helped thousands of children learn to live together with diversity, rather than seeing violent conflict as a solution to addressing difference".

After some research into the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan, I think that I would like to focus my attention on this camp and the possible implementation of a peace education program here.
