Building my FLS

So I have been slowly building up my future learning space. I have been working on how I would implement my ideas and deciding which of the six learning spaces would underpin my space.

So far I know that my focus is on Peace Education. I found when I was reading about it that it aligned with aspects of my own teaching philosophy. I am a firm believer in helping children to become active and conscious citizens. My heart lies promoting holistic education for students, where it is important to develop their personal, social, cultural, academic awareness and consciousness.

Peace education really is about asking children to ask more questions and think critically about their own and existing values held in cultures and communities. It promotes positive interactions and other avenues for conflict resolution.

I also want to incorporate art into my learning space.

I think that using art to explore these topics and allowing children to express their ideas in this way makes these heavy issues and concepts a lot less daunting.

The art is a way for children to express themselves but it is also a way of empowering them to spread the message to others.

I have chosen to use the following learning spaces to underpin my FLS:

*The personal learning space - developing children's self-efficacy and social/emotional maturity.

*Cooperative & Collaborative learning space - encouraging groups to engage with ideas together and reflect together.

*Beyond the classroom- with a focus on creating artistic pieces that are featured in the Zataari community.

*E-learning space - where would a learning space of the future be with ICT?!

I have only recently decided to include the e-space as I was reflecting on my FLS and really thought that a real learning space of the future could not be without technology. Technology is definitely a part of our future and so if I had not included it then I wouldn't feel like the learning space was really catering to the learning needs of these children and the opportunities that e-spaces can afford them.
